Our Interview With Michael Ralby

What’s the most important thing we should know about you?

Michael Ralby: Family is the most important thing in my life. Above anything else, family takes precedence.

Name the most impactful lesson you learned from failure.

Michael Ralby: Failure is an essential part of life, and it opens doorways to education and provides the opportunity to learn. Even though failure can be difficult to handle, it will ultimately pass. I would rather try and fail than never try and regret it.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

Michael Ralby: I’m most proud of my two boys. They are everything to me. Being able to be a part of their development has been so rewarding. I’m grateful to watch them grow and see all that they accomplish.

Name a tool you use for work that you can’t live without.

Michael Ralby: My brain. It is by far the one tool I rely on more than anything. Thick or thin, it’s my greatest asset. It stores all my experiences as well as all the knowledge I have gained over the years. Without it, I wouldn’t be able to complete my work at the level I hold myself to.

What is your favorite hobby and why?

Michael Ralby: My favorite hobby is yoga. It’s both meditative and physical; yoga is great for relaxation and exercise, making it an ideal hobby. The best part about practicing yoga is that there is a connection established and emphasized between the mind, body, and spirit. There’s nothing else quite like it.

What excites you the most about your industry right now?

Michael Ralby: The most exciting thing about my industry is the rate of  change. We will see more changes in the next five years than we have seen in the past two decades. The advancement in technology will help automate the industry. Change can be challenging, but it’s also exciting to see new developments and how it will benefit the world.

What concerns you most about your industry right now?

Michael Ralby: The new gig economy is not allowing a culture to manifest. The growth in demand far exceeds the ability to service it. This is causing challenges for many, both from the service side and the receiving side.

Name one small habit that positively impacts your productivity.

Michael Ralby: Attitude is everything. Having the right mindset, especially in a leadership position, can make a significant difference in your productivity and success as well as the way other people see you. If you allow your attitude to be full of negativity, you will inevitably set yourself back. It’s important to keep a strong, critical, forward-thinking attitude in your work to help maintain a productive workflow and positive atmosphere.

What tips do you have for getting a seat at the table?

Michael Ralby: Ask. You can’t get anything without asking for it. Too many people are tied to the starting line, afraid to ask because of the fear of being rejected. You would be surprised what you might hear if you just ask. Both failure and success are impossible if you don’t take action first.

Do you value intelligence or common sense more? Why?

Michael Ralby: Common sense. Common sense will take you much farther than intelligence. There is absolutely value in formal education, of course, but common sense isn’t something that can be taught. With common sense, you can identify more opportunities and more risks than with intelligence alone.

What would you consider to be the perfect day?

Michael Ralby: An ideal day would be full of the things I enjoy such as yoga, delicious food, and great weather. Simple things like laughing with my favorite people without any concerns about ego, drama, or hidden agendas would also be present. This would make up my perfect day.
