Laura Heymann is Chancellor Professor of Law at William & Mary Law School where she has been working since 2005. This experience at William & Mary has made her a valued resource and a staple of the college’s law community.

She has written a handful of interesting papers that have garnered interest due to their topics. One of the articles that she covered which really made some waves was analyzing the notion of reputation and how the origin of a reputation changes on the source.

What she means by this is that the reputation created by a group vs an individual is perceived differently due to this origin, even if the factors are all the exact same. This is a very interesting topic to explore since the concept of social capital online is continuing to grow and infiltrate our daily lives.

The areas that Laura specializes in from a legal perspective are intellectual property law, copyright law, trademark law, and internet law. The need for experts in this field to help decipher the various complexities that are being created as tech and the internet progress is essential. 

Laura has a well-rounded legal background that consists of positions at The George Washington University Law School and time spent at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. She was also the Book Review Editor at the California Law Review which was undoubtedly a great opportunity to get even more exposure to various kinds of legal cases and materials. This experience is something that has definitely helped during the process of publishing papers.
