Our Interview With Cecil Ray Baker

Question: What’s the most important thing we should know about you?  

Cecil Ray Baker: The most important thing to know about me is that I’m nothing like the negative media has portrayed me to be. I am actually the most down-to-earth, charismatic, compassionate person you could arguably ever meet. 

Question: Name the most impactful lesson you learned from failure.

Cecil Ray Baker: The most impactful lesson I’ve learned personally from my experience with “failure” is unfortunate things happen to you no matter what, it’s how you overcome them that defines you as a person. 

Question: What accomplishment are you most proud of?

Cecil Ray Baker: The greatest accomplishment I’ve made in life is growing up watching American Idol, fantasizing about one day being on the show and then turning that dream into a reality. Where I come from, we didn’t have much, there certainly wasn’t much of an opportunity to do big things in the town I grew up in. I turned it from a fantasy to a destiny. 

Question: What is your favorite hobby and why?

Cecil Ray Baker: My favorite hobby in life is hunting/fishing of all sorts! It’s the best kind of natural therapy out there, and it’s such a thrill to watch yourself get better at it.

Question: What excited you the most about your industry right now?

Cecil Ray Baker: What I’m excited about the most about the Music Industry right now is the fact that I have a bunch of friends in the industry that are doing great things and I just feel so eager to join in on it. I feel like I couldn’t be more ready,  I have so much creativity and so many collaborations awaiting me once I’m there. 

Question: What concerns you most about your industry right now?

Cecil Ray Baker: What concerns me the most about the Music Industry right now is the fact that there are so many Artists trying to do the same thing as me. Maybe not exactly like me but I wonder as the number of artists continue to grow how much the Country Music industry will change in the future.

Question: What’s the greatest risk you’ve ever taken

Cecil Ray Baker: The greatest risk I’ve ever taken;  As I sit back and think on the many times things could’ve gone differently, I think about the time I almost lost a friend right in front of me to drowning, I was already swimming to him as he went under in the river where I then went down and pushed him up and out of the water to a log in a crazy effort nonetheless I barely made it to him with no time to spare before it could’ve been tragic.

Question: Name one small habit that positively impacts your productivity?

Cecil Ray Baker: One small thing that positively impacts my productivity every day is this, I wake up every day feeling like I’m one step closer to where I want to be in life. I just have to continue to put in the work to get there. My children ultimately inspire me to give them the life I never had.

Question: What tips do you have for getting a seat at the table?

Cecil Ray Baker: Tips I have for getting a seat at the table; Surround yourself with successful people, and you’ll start to feel successful. Don’t “get in where you fit in”; get in where you want to fit in because, as they’ve always said, “birds of a feather flock together”.

Question: What book has made the biggest impact on your life?

Cecil Ray Baker: The book, “Think And Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill has been the most impactful and important book to read thus far. It shares information and knowledge about how to learn to be successful and smart with money.

Question: Do you value intelligence or common sense more? Why?

Cecil Ray Baker: I value Intelligence over Common Sense simply because intelligence goes further. If you have intelligence, then you have common sense, intelligence will get you further in life and likely the chances of success. 

Question: What would you consider to be the perfect day?

Cecil Ray Baker: In my opinion, the definition of a perfect day is waking up and enjoying a lovely breakfast with my family; then enjoying the afternoon outdoors in the sun, maybe fishing or swimming at the lake then finishing the day with a couple of good friends and family.
