Catherine Guerriero, a public service professional based in New York City, has dedicated her life to education and the protection of vulnerable individuals. For over 30 years, she has been working with some of the city’s most vulnerable residents. She continues to serve the people of New York as both a public servant and an educator.
Prior to becoming a professor, Cathy earned her Ph.D. from Columbia University’s Steinhardt School. Her research focused on the political agenda of New York City’s public schools. She also received her Masters in Public Administration from New York University’s Robert Wagner School of the Public Service. Her research project focused on the policy agenda for students with disabilities and the New York State Board of Governors. Catherine’s undergraduate degree was from Wagner College. In addition to being a political science and English literature major, she also earned an honors thesis for her work on the concept of feminism.
Over the course of her career, Cathy Guerriero has held various positions in academia. She most recently served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of two private schools in New York City. Currently, she is a faculty member at Columbia University’s Teachers College. She is a leading expert in the fields of education and American politics. Catherine Guerriero has been heavily involved in New York City politics throughout her career. She has held various positions in the city’s political scene, including serving as a campaign advisor and a policy analyst for the Office of the City’s comptroller. In 2013, she became the city’s public advocate.
In addition to teaching at Columbia, Cathy is also a strategic planning consultant, where she helps schools, nonprofits, and small businesses develop their plans and strategies. She thoroughly studies the various aspects of the organizations’ operations and fundraising to create a comprehensive vision of their goals.
Catherine is a passionate community member who has joined various professional and personal organizations. Some of these include the Catholic Housing Association and the New World Prep charter school. She also serves on the boards of the Staten Island Stingray basketball organization and is a coach for both of the organization’s programs.
Cathy has also been a member of various organizations, such as the American Educational Research Association, the National Catholic Educational Association, and the NOIA. Her dedication and hard work have resulted in numerous awards and honors. In 2005, she was given an award by Columbia University for her outstanding teaching.
