Timothy Ravich is one of 37 Board Certified Aviation Lawyers in Florida. His practice focuses on aviation transactions, unmanned aerial vehicle law (drones), airport law, and litigation. He began his career with International law firms of McDermott, Will, & Emery and Hunton & Williams. He represented Fortune 500 corporations in high stakes complex commercial matters. In addition, he was general counsel of a Canada-based precision-agriculture company when it successfully obtained one of the first authorizations for drone aircraft operations in the world.
Education and Career
Tim Ravich was born in Boston, and he graduated from the University of Miami School of Law cum laude. He was the Editor-in-Chief of the University of Miami Business Law Review, and he was tapped into Iron Arrow, which is the highest honor one can attain at the University of Miami.
After working with the two International law firms, he founded Ravich Law Firm, PLLC in 2010. He wanted to use his experience to offer high-end services at lower rates in a boutique setting. His firm represents individuals and companies in business and contract disputes. He also acts as a circuit certified mediator for the Supreme Court of Florida where he facilitates the resolution of disputes.
Tim Ravich is also a specialist in aviation law. He represents clients in purchasing and selling aircraft, as well as general aviation and airline related disputes. He also represents clients in space law and the emerging field of unmanned aerial vehicle law and commercial sUAS sectors.
In addition, he obtains a rating from Martindale-Hubbell based on his legal ability and general ethical standards. He also appears as a Super Lawyer and Leading Lawyer in South Florida. He is an active leader in the community and with the Florida Bar.
Mr. Ravich was the 92nd president of the Dade County Bar Association, and he has chaired the DCBA Professionalism committee. He led the Florida Bar Aviation Law Committee for two consecutive terms, and he serves on the Aviation Law Certification Committee. Finally, he is a member of the American Bar Association’s House of Delegates, where he serves as the DCBA delegate.
Publications and Work
Tim Ravich has written many different publications on aviation. He wrote a course book, Aviation Law After September 11th. He also designed and taught an aviation and space law course at University of Miami School of Law and FIU College of Law. In addition, he earned his MBA in Aviation Policy and Planning from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, which brings a business perspective to his law practice.
Mr. Ravich’s work has appeared in law journals such as the Columbia Business Law Review, Columbia Journal of Law and Social Problems, William and Mary Business Law Review, American Business Law Journal, and Georgetown Journal of International Law. He recently authored U.S. Aviation lae: An Introduction in 2019. He also wrote “Commercial Drone Law: Digest of US and Global UAS Rules, Policies, and Practices” for the American Bar Association in 2017.
Other Work
Tim Ravich serves as the Principle Investigator on various airport and drone based projects that are sponsored by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. He was also the Principle Investigator of Evolving Law on Airport Implications by Unmanned Aerial Systems, which was a 2017 project sponsored by the Airport Cooperative Research Program.
In addition, Mr. Ravich is often asked to appear online and on the radio as a subject matter expert. He has served in this capacity for Christian Science Monitor, China Central Television, HuffPost, Mercatus Center at George Mason University, National Public Radio, the Atlantic, and NTV (Russia).
Finally, Mr. Ravich is an assistant professor at the University of Central Florida, Department of Legal Studies. His scholarship and teaching is centered on aviation, administrative law, and the regulation of emerging technologies. His areas of expertise include Administrative Law, Civil Procedure, and Law and Technology, and he was recently awarded the UCF College Faculty Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching.
